Industrial
Revolution Web Quest is a an interactive lesson in
which students learn about the Industrial Revolution by doing
background research, creating a top 10 list of inventions, and
making predictions for the future. Links are provided at this
site in each of the 3 sections, so even if you don't use the web
quest itself, it's really good place to find links.
Social
Studies/History Geography Curriculum Resources is
a site from Ontario. It has lessons for History and Geography,
Grades 7 and 8. The Grade 7 History lessons are New France, British
North America, Conflict and Change. Even if you don't use the
lesson plans you'll still find the resource links very useful
(i.e. Simcoe, Loyalists, etc.)
Social
Studies Links is a site from a BC teacher that contains
links for Social Studies research, maps, bibliographies and essay
writing. There are also lesson plans for Transitional 8/9 and
other subjects.

Webquests
French Revolution
WebQuest comes from Prince of Wales Secondary School. The assignment
involves producing newspaper articles based on an assigned point
of view. Links to resources can also be found on this page.

Resources
CanText Library
from ITP Nelson contains a variety of historical documents that
might prove useful. Some relevant sections are: New
France & Quebec 1608-1759 (8 documents), Western
Settlement 1856-1933 (19 documents), and Confederation
1865-1880 (12 documents).
David
Thompson Social Online has Work and Resources pages
for Social Studies 9, and 9-enriched. The Work section probably
isn't of that much use because it is a week-by-week section for
students, but the resources sections looks good. Social 9 has
links in the following categories: First Nations, Vikings, American
Revolution, French Revolution, Industrial Revolution, Imperialism
- South Africa, and General Interest. Socials 9-enriched has additional
sites.
Grade
12 (Canadian) History Internet Resources for High School Teachers
in Saskatchewan comes from the University of Saskatchewan,
and provides a good selection of Canadian History links. Some
of categories with links of interest might be First Nation Societies,
The Arrival of the Europeans, New France, Fur Trade Society, Britain
and France at War, American Revolution, Loyalists, and the War
of 1812-1814.
Internet Modern
History Sourcebook has a section on the Industrial
Revolution where you can find links to online texts
on the Industrial Revolution, Social and Political Effects, and
Literary Responses.
Maritime Museum
of British Columbia's Exhibition
pages on Commerce and Exploration are the most relevant
to Socials 9. The Commerce page contains sections on early trade,
the Hudson's Bay Company, and First Nations. The Exploration page
contains sections on European Exploration on the Northwest Coast,
First Contact, and Navigation. The level of discourse is appropriate
to students at the grade 9 level, and the site as a whole has
been recognized by the Encylcopedia Britannica.
Sherry
Wilcox's and Roland Case's Top Web Choices - Grade 9
contains links supporting the Social Studies IRP. The topics are:
Aboriginal Communities, Canadian Political and Legal Roots, Economic
Systems, Exploration and Trade Including Fur Trade, Geographic
Regions of North America, and Industrialization.
Teaching
& Learning About Canada is a site for teachers
and students that provides information and links on Canadian Geography,
History, Politics, Society, Culture, Wildlife, Time Zones, Graphs,
Maps, etc. There are some links of interest to grade 9 teachers
in the History category and perhaps in other categories as well.
Virtual
Museum of New France comes from the Canadian Museum
of Civilization. It contains short biographies of Explorers, articles
on People such as Les Filles du roi, Voyageurs, and others. The
site also has some games, maps, a chronology, a glossary, and
links to other sites. The site is easy to navigate, and contains
images.
