This page contains
primarily links to Canadian authors because I found them quite
hard to come by so I felt there was a need for this information.
To a lesser extent I also have links to other authors who I particularly
like or whose sites I feel are particularly useful. I tried to
stick to official websites for the most part, and unless indicated
otherwise all the sites should contain contact information.
*I have removed
three authors (Pat Hancock, Jean Little, and Paul Yee) from the
page since their sites are no longer up and running, if you run
across official webpages for them let me know.
Canadian Authors
William
Bell's Web Site
contains information on the author (short biography and FAQs),
a student' page (booklist with FAQs for each book), teacher's
page (information on purchasing resources), research links (articles
and reviews of his books), a couple of articles, and author visit
information.
John
Bianchi's web
site contains author visit information (including preparation,
sample schedule, and references), booklist, biography, illustrations,
reviews, and links to more information on the publisher's
site.
David
Bouchard's
site is actually somewhat annoying in that it's designed to resemble
a book so you have to flip through the books with its animated
pages so it makes navigation a bit of a hassle at times but the
information contained in the site is useful. The site contains
his biography, a books page (excerpts, ordering information, reviews,
awards, etc.), and a list of his speaking engagements as well
as information on author visits. A part of the site that I found
interesting were the keys hidden throughout the Books pages
which when selected take you to various pages containing this
views and ideas on promoting literacy (finding the keys is annoying
but some of his ideas might prove worthwhile).
Margaret
Buffie's website contains a biography with a list of awards
and distinctions, booklist with review excerpts, news, some links,
and FAQs.
Kristin
Butcher's page contains a booklist (with excerpts, reviews,
and reader comments), author visit information (including a page
on how to prepare for a visit), FAQs, photographs, comments, events,
and links pages.
Phoebe
Gilman's Place contains a booklist with information on
the books and how they were written as well as list of things
hidden throughout the illustrations in the book, Activity Book
for kids with printable activities, and a Teacher's page with
an activity guide for her books. The Event page is outdated with
a couple of events from 2000 and I'm not sure when the entire
site was last updated.
Troon
Harrison's page contains a letter from Troon, upcoming
releases, information on her novels (summary, photos, reviews,
and one has an excerpt) and picture books (summary and reviews),
appearance information, and a links page.
Linda
Holeman's site contains information on her books for young
adults such as why she chose to write a particular story, FAQs,
a biographical sketch, and a page on what's new with her.
Monica
Hughes' Virtual Author Visit contains a biography, checklist
of her books and trivia test, full-colour printable bookmarks
and posters, advice for writers, cover art, a teacher's page with
links to study guides, and information on translations. Unlike
the other sites, this one appears to not have been updated lately
so the news page is stuck on June 2000 and the links may not work.
Hazel
Hutchins Home Page contains quizzes, information on her
and how she writes, booklist, study guide purchasing information,
author visit/presentation information, and a contest (ages 6-12).
Joan

make a talking mouth pop-up card, workshop information, "Make

of author readings, biography, and some links.

English and French. The site contains an exhibition that shows
how she illustrated her books, biography, bibliography, and
chronology of her life.
Official
Gordon Korman Web Site contains reviews, upcoming
titles with excerpts, short fiction (story and a short play),

book, a biography, booklist, and some personal photos and stories.
Sheryl
McFarlane: Canadian Children's Author contains information
on the author and her books, news, and a Kid's Corner with activities,
questions, bookmarks, and letters. There is also a Teacher's
page with information on author visits, printable bookmarks,
and a handout on picture books for older readers. I did have
a problem opening up one of the bookmark but other than that
navigating the site seems fairly easy.
Allen
Morgan On-Line
contains online
stories from his various books. The stories are changed every
couple of weeks but students might find reading his stuff online
interesting.
The
Official Robert Munsch Website contains information
on his books, a biography, photographs, events, news, children's
art, audio page with over a 20 stories, and information on author
visits. The information on the books is great because he tells
you what inspired him to write the stories (*Love You Forever
was the only page I read and I felt like crying after the first
paragraph). Great site to learn about the author and his books.
Sheldon
Oberman: Writing and Storytelling contains a booklist
with information on what inspired the books, a teaching guide,
reviews, awards, excerpts, and in some cases audio excerpts of
the author reading. The site also has information on the author
with FAQs, interviews. and personal stories and essays. The teachers
page contains activity information for specific books as well
as other creative activities for students. I'm sure there is more
on this site which I've missed so take a look for yourself.
Kenneth
Oppel's site contains information on his books (including
excerpts, and reviews), the author (biography, awards, appearance
information, FAQs), and news. The Silverwing, Sunwing, Firewing
books have the most emphasis on this site and there are study
guides as well as links to learn about bats, and a gallery of
artwork inspired by Silverwing. *Silverwing cartoon series with
13 episodes will be on Teletoon in Fall 2003 and they'll have
a website set-up for that on the production company's website.

Parry's site contains a little information on her books,
a few articles, performance and workshop information, and information
on her Quaker background.
Arthur
Slade: Writing for Young Adults contains a biography,

study guides for The Northern Frights series, and author visit

synopsis for her books with related Internet links, full-colour
printable bookmarks, information on how/where to purchase her
books and teacher guides, author visit information, and free Marc
