The
Consortium for School Networking: Safeguarding the Wired Schoolhouse
contains some useful information on dealing with issues related
to wired schools. Sections on the site include: Publications &
Tools, Checklist for Decision Making, and links to Other Resources.
There is a downloadable PowerPoint presentation on Safeguarding
the Wired Schoolhouse, but I did not take a look at that myself.

If you're looking
for some type of volunteer work, why don't you consider Virtual
Reference Desk an Internet-based question-answering and
referral service for K-12 patrons. You volunteer on an alternating
schedule (one month on, one month off), and have an average of
3 questions a week. Just contact the coordinator whose name is
at the bottom of the VRD webpage.
