ABC Canada Literacy Foundation: Family Literacy Day (27 January) contains tools to help literacy groups celebrate the day.

ALA: ICONnect: Connecting Learners to Information contains a variety of resources to help support school library media specialists in their "leadership roles in using the Internet."

About.com: Library Internet Filtering Software contains links to product descriptions as well as discussions on filtering.

All About Romance: Cover Contest 2001 gives you the top ten worst romance novel covers for 2001 and a link to the entry forms for next year's nominees. Fun to look at even if you're not a romance reader, and if you are this page could offer a wonderful place to vent about the truly awful and embarassing covers you run across.

The Consortium for School Networking: Safeguarding the Wired Schoolhouse contains some useful information on dealing with issues related to wired schools. Sections on the site include: Publications & Tools, Checklist for Decision Making, and links to Other Resources. There is a downloadable PowerPoint presentation on Safeguarding the Wired Schoolhouse, but I did not take a look at that myself.

Family Connections: The Directory of Family Literacy Projects Across Canada contains links and contact information for projects.

Gardiner Public Library: Who Reads What?: Annual Celebrity Reading List

IFLA: Quotations About Libraries and Librarians contains quotations on books, borrowing, censorship, children, humour, vanity, and more.

ISMLC: Storytelling, Drama, Creative Dramatics, Puppetry & Readers Theater for Children & Young Adults contains a great selection of links on all these topics.

Joan Irvine: How to Make a Pop-Up is an excerpt from her book that contains instructions and drawings on how to make a talking mouth pop-up card.

Library HQ: Screen Savers for Librarians contains links to a variety of screen savers including Harry Potter, Flying Darwins, Dewey Decimal, Tolkien, Penguin Classics, Quotations, and more.

Library and Information Science News: School Libraries contains news stories on school libraries.

Media Awareness Network: Copyright in Canada (revised 2001) contains amendments to the Copyright Act which are of interest to educators.

ODLIS: Online Dictionary of Library and Information Science

PowerPoint in the Classroom is a nice little site that teaches you how to use PowerPoint.

The Researching Librarian: Web resources helpful for librarians doing research. Contains the following sections: Databases, Funding, Journals, Statistics, Tools, and Awareness.

Scholastic Teacher Radio is a daily audio magazine for teachers. (RealPlayer required)

Stop Falling is a store that sells library-related clothing, pins, etc. (US)

Story Arts: Storytelling Resources is a nice storytelling site that discusses storytelling in the classrooms, and contains lesson plans and activities, as well as articles, links, and more.

If you're looking for some type of volunteer work, why don't you consider Virtual Reference Desk an Internet-based question-answering and referral service for K-12 patrons. You volunteer on an alternating schedule (one month on, one month off), and have an average of 3 questions a week. Just contact the coordinator whose name is at the bottom of the VRD webpage.
