Summary: Biographies of Renaissance figures such as Titian, Galileo,
Catherine de Medici, John Milton, Gentileschi, and others. Contains
wonderful illustrations. Book is of particular significance because
of the biographies of two female Renaissance figures: Catherine
de Medici and Artemisia Gentileschi.

and art." These primary documents tend to be short or excerpts from
longer documents so they are fairly accessible to secondary students.

Summary: The Norton Recorded Anthology of Western Music is comprised
of 12 CDs and is used in college music courses. The 4 volume concise
edition is lower in cost and more suited to a high school library
and that is the one that I am recommending. It contains 149 pieces
of western music so it will provide a suitable historical overview
(including the Renaissance) without overwhelming students.
